The area under the eyes is generally one of the most common concerns amongst patients. The concern can be dark under-eye circles, lines, wrinkles, looking tired or a hollowing of the area. This area can be easily treated with Tear Through dermal fillers provided the appropriate product and technique is used by an experienced clinician.
· Tear Trough procedure can disguise the appearance of dark under-eye circles, fill lines and give a rejuvenated, fresh appearance
· Often, this area is associated with genetics as opposed to being a sign of ageing – some patients will notice this area as an a concern from a young age
· Dermal fillers are replacing fat transfer treatments due to their more reliable and less invasive properties
· Results vary for each individual, therefore, expectations and outcome will be discussed during the consultation
The safest dermal fillers are clear gels made from Hyaluronic acid that last for a limited period of time (depanding on the product). Hyaluronic acid is a compound that occurs naturally in your body and is responsible for attracting and retaining moisture. Your body produces its own Hyaluronic acid but as we age, the production diminishes.
The dermal filler product that is used for treating the tear trough is specifically designed for this area ensuring a safe and long-lasting result.
Small quantities of appropriate dermal filler will be injected into the area between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This will subtly plump the area, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and smoothing the area. It is extremely important to treat this area with care and not overtreat the area. Tear trough treatment should only be carried out by a highly experienced clinician.
Tear trough treatment is suitable for anyone concerned with the appearance of their under-eye area. Both males and females are suitable for treatment, and during the consultation, a full treatment plan will be created. Interestingly, sometimes it is the lack of volume in the mid cheek that can cause a hollowing under the eye and therefore, it may be appropriate to first or alongside the tear trough procedure.
A local anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment which can reduce discomfort during treatment. The dermal fillers of choice at Anna Medical Aesthetics have a local anaesthetic called Lignocaine integrated within the product, which can make the whole process more comfortable. A cannula (a flexible, blunt-ended needle) is often used for this procedure which can, in some cases, reduce the risk of bruising.
Treatment times will vary depending on the area(s) that is treated and the product that is used but is generally between 30 – 45 minutes.
Longevity can range from 9 – 18 months and will also vary from person to person.
During your consultation, Anna will be able to give you more of an idea about how long the filler should last.
Personally, I wouldn’t treat you while you pregnant or breastfeeding. This may seem a little harsh, but I would wait if it where myself. To the best of my knowledge, dermal fillers are not tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women, so there really is no safety data available. Since local anaesthetic is used for most filler injections, there is a risk it can get to your bloodstream and to your baby.
You will be able to carry on with your normal activities following treatment. It is not advised to do any heavy exercise and avoid UV exposure for 24 hours. We also advise trying to refrain from applying make-up following the procedure on the day of treatment. A full list of aftercare will be discussed on the day of treatment.
It is completely normal to have redness and swelling post procedure (swelling is very common after lip enhancement procedures). Swelling will generally subside after about 48 hours but can often take longer in many cases.
Despite efforts being made to avoid bruising, it can occur. If it does, it can take a week or two to disappear. Make-up can be applied to conceal it if needed, but ideally not on the day of treatment to avoid the risk of infection. Arnica gel/cream can also be worth applying to the area to help reduce the appearance of bruising.
A full list of possible side effects will be discussed with you during your consultation.
It is best to discuss your needs, expectations and suitability for treatment during a face-to-face complementary consultation at our Swindon based clinic. Anna can assess your facial anatomy and make tailored recommendations to achieve the best possible outcome.
