Dermal Fillers

What is it?

As early as age 20-30, our faces begin to very gradually lose volume. The hollowness of volume-loss allows gravity to pull the skin of the face forward and downward. This inevitably results in the folds and jowls that are the classic signs of aging.

Injectable Dermal Fillers are a popular facial rejuvenation treatment. By restoration of volume to specially targeted sites of the face it is possible to fill in hollows, folds and wrinkles, creating a fresher look that still appears natural.

Dermal fillers injected into the skin to physically lift and sculpt it, correcting wrinkles, folds, scars and asymmetries of the face. Dermal fillers are used for sculpting, shaping lips, cheeks, down turned mouth corners, chin and jawline as well as for lip enlargement. For the most part dermal fillers are replacing fat transfer because dermal fillers are less invasive and more reliable for facial rejuvenation than fat transfer.

The safest dermal fillers are gels made from hyaluranon (a carbohydrate) that last for only a limited period of time. Because hyaluranon is naturally present in the skin, but declines with aging, fillers made from these substances are an ideal choice for rejuvenation. Collagen has largely been replaced by hyaluranon fillers like Juvederm.

What can be treated with the Dermal Fillers?

Injectable Dermal Fillers are a popular facial rejuvenation treatment. By restoration of volume to specially targeted sites of the face it is possible to fill in hollows, folds and wrinkles, creating a fresher look that still appears natural.

Dermal Fillers are most commonly used per area or for full facial sculpting. The areas are as follows
  • Lip Fillers
  • Hand Fillers
  • Tear Trough
  • Chin Filler
  • Jawline Enhancement
  • Nose to Mouth Marionette Line
  • Wrinkles on neck lines
  • Jawline Enhancement

The latest dermal fillers at Anna Medical Aesthetics include a local anaesthetic called lignocaine in the filler which markedly reduces the pain of injection making the whole process much more relaxing.

It is best to discuss your needs in a face-to-face complimentary consultation when Anna can assess your facial anatomy and make tailored recommendations that are likely to help you achieve the best possible outcomes.

Can you get Dermal Fillers while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Personally, I wouldn’t treat you while you pregnant or breastfeeding. This may seem a little harsh, but I would wait if it where myself. To the best of my knowledge, dermal fillers are not tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women, so there really is no safety data available. Since local anaesthetic is used for most filler injections, there is a risk it can get to your bloodstream and to your baby.
