There are many different types of chemical peels available and the appropriate peel would be selected for you based on your skin type, condition and concerns.

· Results vary for each individual, therefore, expectations and outcome will be discussed during the consultation
Chemical Peel q&a
Chemical peels are a treatment that can resurface and stimulate cell renewal on the skin. By chemically exfoliating the skin, this can remove the top layers of skin which has many benefits. Chemical peels can stimulate collagen production, reduce the appearance of pigmentation, smooth lines and wrinkles and leave the skin smooth and soft. Peels can also play a crucial role in controlling an acneic skin.
here are many different types of chemical peels which are suited to different skin types and concerns. Different peels will have different strengths and this will determine the depth that it penetrates into the skin. At Anna Medical Aesthetics, the brands of choice are SkinTech and NeoStrata.
Glycolic Acid is an ingredient that is often used for skin renewal treatments. This can help remove the damaged layer of surface skin cells revealing fresh skin, stimulating cell turnover and encouraging anti-ageing effects in the skin. Other ingredients that are often used in chemical peels are Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, Beta-Hydroxy Acids (BHA) and Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA). All of these can have different beneficial effects on the skin and the most suitable peel for you and your skin type would be discussed during your consultation.
Chemical peels are suitable for anyone that is concerned with the appearance of their skin. Here are some of the concerns that are commonly treated with chemical peels:
· Fine lines and wrinkles
· Uneven skin tone/discolouration
· Open/enlarged pores
· Uneven skin texture
· Blemished/acne-prone skin
· Shallow acne scars
· Lacklustre, dull skin
First of all, the skin is cleansed thoroughly with an appropriate cleanser. Protection around the eye area is applied, the skin is prepped and then the chemical peel solution is then applied to the skin. Once the peel has been on the skin for the appropriate time, it is removed and neutralised. Soothing products and sun protection are then applied.
A one-off treatment can be carried out as a brightener prior to a special occasion but to treat concerns on the skin, generally, a course of chemical peels are required. The number of treatments and the time between treatments will vary depending on the chemical peel that you have and the concerns that are being treated. This will be discussed and determined during your consultation.
Sun exposure both before and after the treatment should be avoided. Saunas and steam rooms should also be avoided for a minimum of 48 hours following treatment. It is a necessity to apply SPF following the treatment.
SAFETY & SIDE-EFFECTS
Following treatment, it is common for there to be some redness in the skin. The level of redness will depend on which chemical peel is used. A few days following treatment, you may experience shedding (or ‘peeling’) of the skin. Again, the level of this will depend on which chemical peel you have. Deeper peels may have a longer recovery but can also result in greater improvement in the skin.
A full list of possible side effects and what to expect following treatments will be discussed during your consultation.
It is best to discuss your needs, expectations and suitability for treatment during a face-to-face complementary consultation.
