Anti-ageing injections (also known as Botox) create a natural-looking improvement of unwanted expression lines, fine lines and wrinkles. Over time, repetitive movements such as smiling, squinting and frowning can cause creases to form on the skin. In order to prevent this from happening, and treating existing lines, anti-wrinkle injections can be used to ease muscle movement and aid the appearance of smooth, wrinkle-free skin.
· Anti-ageing Botox injections are used to treat dynamic lines that form from repetitive movement
· The treatment can help relax muscles and therefore give a youthful, fresh appearance
· With regular treatments, the skin cells are protected from the stress of repetitive creasing and are therefore able to regain thickness and return to a smoother state
· Treatment can treat wrinkles that have formed over time but can also be used as a preventative measure
· Results vary for each individual, therefore, expectations and outcome will be discussed during the consultation
Anti-ageing injections are a prescription-only purified protein medication also known as Botulinum Toxin Type A or ‘Botox’. Precise doses of the product are injected into specifically targeted areas.
There are many treatments available that can help treat line and wrinkle formation on the face. Botox injections are used to treat dynamic lines that are caused by the contraction of facial muscles. The injections temporarily interrupt the transmission of nerve signals (neurotransmitters) to the muscles that are causing the expression lines. This will prevent the muscle from contracting and causing the lines.
Anti-ageing injections are suitable for people that are looking to refresh their skin, protect and treat lines and wrinkles and generally would like a more youthful appearance.
Anti-ageing injections are generally most effective on lines or wrinkles around the eyes, eyebrows and forehead.
Common treatment areas include:
– Frown Lines
– Crow’s Feet
– Forehead Lines
– Fine Lines and Wrinkles
– Laughter Lines
– Bunny Lines/Nose Wrinkles
– Other deep expression lines and folds
Another area that can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections is the jaw area, in the masseter muscle (the muscle that is involved in chewing located at the angle of the jawline, below the ears). Treating this area can help with the appearance of a ‘square jaw’ due to the slimming effect it will have. This treatment can also help with bruxism (teeth grinding) and headaches that can be caused by this muscle (often caused by clenching teeth).
Botulinum Toxin Type A can also be injected into the underarms to help with hyperhidrosis and reduce sweating in this area.
The treatment itself consists of having a small number of injections in the areas of concern. The process is a quick (20 – 40 minutes) and relatively comfortable procedure. The needles that are used are very small and only a small amount of product is used. It’s important to note that the effects of anti-ageing injections don’t immediately ‘fill’ or correct wrinkles. The treatment is effective on the cause of the line – the muscle itself. You will notice a gradual reduction of movement within the muscle that has been treated over a 14-day period following treatment.
Everyone is different and unique, but generally, results will tend to last for around 3 – 4 months. The duration of results will differ from person to person. Studies have shown that regular anti-ageing injections can over time weaken the muscle over time and therefore last longer. Should you decide not to continue with the treatment, the area will simply return to its previous state and will not worsen.
You will be able to carry on with your normal activities following treatment. It is not advised to exercise for 24 hours or massage the area. Touching the face should be avoided for at least 4 hours following the treatment.
There are very few side effects following treatment and essentially no downtime involved. Bruising can occur but is generally very mild and can be easily covered with make-up. A small amount of redness or swelling (resembling a mosquito bite) may occur directly after the treatment but will usually subside after only one hour.
It is best to discuss your needs, expectations and suitability for treatment during a face-to-face complementary consultation. Anna can assess your facial anatomy and make tailored recommendations to achieve the best possible outcome.
